Being Filled With
The Holy Spirit (Baptism of The Holy Spirit)
Being baptized with
the Holy Spirit is a subsequent action of a believer after they are
born again and should not be confused with being born of the Spirit
as in the "New Birth" experience. Being born of the
Spirit is for you, it is the way we receive Salvation. Being
baptized with the Holy Spirit (filled) is how we receive the power
to be witnesses for Jesus and to minister to others.
Let's look at what
the Bible tells us concerning the Holy Spirit.
-
Our Helper: John
14:16-17 "And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another
Helper, that He may abide with you forever, the Spirit of truth,
whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor
knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be
in you."
-
Our
Teacher: John 14:26 "But
the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My
name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance
all things that I said to you."
-
Our
Leader (Guide): John 16:13 "However,
when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into
all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority,
but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things
to come."
Here's
why we need to be baptized or filled with the Holy Spirit.
-
To
Witness and for Power: Acts 1:8
"
But you shall receive power when
the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be
witnesses
to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end
of the earth.”
What
you should expect when you are filled with the Holy Spirit.
-
There
should be an outward evidence of being filled: Acts
2:1-4 When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were
all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound
from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole
house where they were sitting. Then
there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat
upon each of them. And
they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with
other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. You
will speak in tongues.
Is this
gift for me? God has promised this gift to all who believe.
- This
gift is for all who believe: Acts 2:38-39 Then
Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be
baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins;
and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For
the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are
afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call.”
Your mind will not
understand, but you will speak mysteries.
- Speaking mysteries:
1 Corinthians 14:2
For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God,
for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he
speaks mysteries.
You
will edify yourself.
- Edify yourself:
1 Corinthians 14:4 He
who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies
edifies the church.
It is an act of your
own will.
- You must do the
talking: 1 Corinthians
14:14-15 For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays,
but my understanding is unfruitful. What
is the
conclusion then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will
also pray with the understanding. I will sing with the spirit,
and I will also sing with the understanding.
If you ask the
Father for the gift of the Holy Spirit in Faith, He will give
you what you ask.
- God's A.S.K.
principle: Luke 11:9-10,
& 13 “So
I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you
will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.
For
everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him
who knocks it will be opened." v13 "If
you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your
children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the
Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!"
What must you do to receive
the baptism of the Holy Spirit?
-
First you
must be born again. If you have not accepted Jesus as
your Lord and saviour yet or
do not know about the Plan of Salvation (New Birth) you should click
here and receive Jesus first.
-
You must
believe the scriptures concerning the Baptism with the Holy
Spirit presented here.
-
You need to
ask Jesus to baptize of you with the Holy Spirit with the
evidence of speaking in tongues.
-
Receive the
Holy Spirit by faith, believe that you receive when you ask
for it.
-
You must
exercise your faith, begin to speak in other tongues, the Holy
Spirit will give you the words, but you have to speak.
Notice in Acts 2:4 that it says "they began to
speak." The believer does the speaking!
Here is a
simple prayer that you can pray and ask for the baptism with the
Holy Spirit.
Father, I
come to you in the Name of Jesus. I was saved by grace
through faith. I ask you Jesus, to Baptize me with the Holy
Spirit and your fire. I receive the Baptism of the Holy
Spirit right now in Jesus Name. come upon me now, fill me
now, I will boldly speak out in my heavenly language now in Jesus
Name.
If you prayed
that prayer call,
write or send us an e-mail so we can rejoice with you and pray for
you.
